50 days and 50 nights

Vasteras

Well, that was certainly the longest expedition I’ve ever been on.

Yesterday evening I arrived home after 4 weeks in the Norwegian mountains, 3 weeks pedalling through Scandinavia and a final day’s ride from Stansted airport. Couple that with the fact that it was my birthday and you’ll get an idea of just how wide my smile was.

The cycling, in particular, was a huge learning experience for me. Traveling on my own after a hectic 50-man expedition, tired from the previous weeks’ activities and trying something with which I don’t have much experience all added up to something tougher than I had anticipated but also more rewarding.

There’s a lot to do now that I’m back: panniers to unpack, photos to edit and stories to write, ready for filling these pages which have been neglected over the summer. Not to mention helping a certain person cross the country under his own steam next week.

But before these photos, tall tales and more information on Rob’s triathlon are made available, I must first find myself some more cake…

Really enjoyed reading your tweets and keeping up with your Norwegian cycle. It’s something I really fancy doing and a part of the world I have always meant to visit. It’ll be good to see some pics when you put them up. Many congratulations on an immense achievement!

Joolz, thanks for your message. I’d certainly recommend Scandinavia as a place to cycle – quiet roads, nice people and the freedom to camp anywhere.

If you do make a trip over there then by all means drop me a line if there’s anything I can help with.

    Photos will be up tomorrow!
