9 reasons to Tweet on expedition (and 7 more not to)

Crystal Springs

Reasons to Tweet:

  1. More people get to share your experiences
  2. Friends and family can track your progress
  3. When it sounds like you’re struggling, people send messages of support
  4. It provides another record of your trip (like it does here)
  5. It can help with loneliness
  6. Sometimes it motivates me to do things (a pathetic admission but, I think, with good results)
  7. It’s good promo
  8. It gives an additional focus
  9. It’s fun

Reasons not to Tweet:

  1. It detracts from the feeling of remoteness
  2. People think that you are contactable (because you probably are)
  3. It can encourage hyperbole
  4. Expeditions are supposed to be about getting away from things
  5. It’s a distraction from the here and now
  6. It can be a chore
  7. It requires technology (phone/charging equipment etc)

What else is there?
