One Tiny Step

Tim’s Experience

The best way to get a feel for Tim’s background is probably to look through his Portfolio and read his Biography. Equally, to find out what he’s actually like, his Blog is as good a place as any.

More could be written here but it would only be duplicating a website which speaks for itself. However, questions and CV requests are welcome.

How can The Next Challenge help you?

  • Ideas – People often have an urge to do something great or an inkling to try something new but don’t know where to start. Someone to bounce ideas off, sow the seed of a master plan or just use as a sounding board can be all it takes. Don’t let a lack of a concrete plan stop you from getting started.
  • Logistics – Want to go on an expedition, don’t want to join a tour group but don’t know where to start? It needn’t be a headache. Tim’s organised expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic, Himalayas, Andes and Amazon as well as local, fundraising and sporting events.
  • Fundraising – Whether you need funding for your own idea or are raising for charity, getting the money together is often a key concern and the first reason people cite for not starting an adventure. It shouldn’t be. Tim has dedicated a lot of time and effort to making fundraising fun and rewarding for both sponsor and recipient. He’s secured a dozen or more expedition grants for his own trips, run all sorts of weird and wonderful fundraising initiatives and even given a talk on the subject at the Royal Geographical Society.
  • Websites – Most expeditions and challenges have some kind of web presence these days. They’re useful tools but if you don’t know your Tweet from your RSS then it can seem daunting. Equally, you may need someone to look after and update a site whilst you’re away on your adventure. This website was built and is maintained by Tim.
  • Motivation – You probably don’t need a rousing speech or a self-help book but, from the first step to the final yards, a bit of encouragement is rarely a bad thing and often a necessity. Tim’s found the motivation to complete his own challenges and enjoys nothing more than convincing someone else to take one on themselves.

“During the Kaspersky Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition it was vital that we had someone back home who was able to keep the lines of communication between the team and the rest of the world running smoothly as well as dealing with any problems that arose.

Tim became a lifeline for us on the ice. He dealt with every request we threw at him efficiently and confidently. We trusted him completely with everything from sponsor liason, to dealing with the media and talking to our families.

Tim inspires confidence and he quickly and easily became an integral part of our unconventional team. I feel very, very grateful to have had Tim on board.”
