Last week I announced the shortlist for this year’s Next Challenge Grant. But before any of the applicants even knew whether or not they’d made that shortlist, dozens of them had sent lovely messages about how much they appreciated the grant.
I’m just one of over 100 people that support this grant – lots of the money comes from £3 donations made by members of the public – so I thought it was only fair that I share the applicants’ kind words for everyone to see.
Three pounds can make a real difference to people…

“I have been inspired by the success and tenacity of the 2015 grant winner, Elise Downing, and her attitude to taking on an adventure. I have long believed I needed to have a bigger, harder, more unobtainable goal to make it a success, but having watched Elise do what she is doing, I realise that an adventure can be close to home and is often about the people you meet and your own attitude to what you experience.”
“Thank you for the opportunity to write this. It is helpful for me to state my goals again here, even though I know them myself. It gives me added confidence I can do this. Thank you again.”
“Great initiative, I’m so glad you guys give people the opportunity to explore the world!”
