Reasons to Tweet:
- More people get to share your experiences
- Friends and family can track your progress
- When it sounds like you’re struggling, people send messages of support
- It provides another record of your trip (like it does here)
- It can help with loneliness
- Sometimes it motivates me to do things (a pathetic admission but, I think, with good results)
- It’s good promo
- It gives an additional focus
- It’s fun
–
Reasons not to Tweet:
- It detracts from the feeling of remoteness
- People think that you are contactable (because you probably are)
- It can encourage hyperbole
- Expeditions are supposed to be about getting away from things
- It’s a distraction from the here and now
- It can be a chore
- It requires technology (phone/charging equipment etc)
