You might want to have a look at the folding foam mats you can get as army surplus. They’re available in the UK, about 3mm thick and weigh about 380g, and they fold down to a rectangular shape 38 x 27 x 3 cm in size, easy to slot in the back of your backpack.
Here’s an example: http://www.militarymart.co.uk/german-folding-sleeping-iso-mat.html. I bought mine on ebay earlier in the year for about a tenner. It’s closed cell foam so it’s good insulation.

That looks ideal. Thank you for sharing that. I’ll update the article.

I bought Nike fundamentals yoga mat, but it weighs in at 398g with plastic sleeve and tags. So this won’t work

I have bought the Nike Fundamentals mat, but it weights 400g so it’s going back!

Not a problem, just wanted people to know it was not quite as though.

So then I returned the nike mat and bought the gossamer gear one from the US. Can’t weigh it without putting it in a nylon bag as it would unravel, but with the bag it weighs 83g which is incredible. $33 was around £25 including shipping to UK, no customs or VAT as the item itself is below the threshold. And it arrived within a week1

Excellent. Glad you’ve got something sorted William. The Americans are much hotter on their ultralight mats.
