Venezia!
Another week on the road, evaporated into thin air.
Another five mornings packing away a dew ridden tent and inhaling entire packets of breakfast cereal.
Another 400km consumed through the hard slog of bumpy roads, inclines and sugar lows, or swallowed easily with a tailwind and primed muscles.
Another puncture, this time a fat chunk of glass stuck brazenly through my tyre bringing the total to 3 for all the Puncture Watch subscribers.
Another hunt for gas cannisters with the right valve, search for milk of the powdered variety and scouring for the right road.
Another awkward request to fill up a 10-litre water bladder at a bar, search for a suitable and discreet camping spot, and night spent listening out for the sound of police/psychopaths/wild animals.
Another week on the road, disappeared.
Another week on the road, filled with all of life.
Update 18th September: We’re holed up in a campsite – a proper one with showers, picnic benches and wifi, not the grass verge / behind a hedge / down by the river kind – just outside of Venice. We spent five days doing a long route from Milan and are now enjoying a day of rest and taking the opportunity to visit an iconic city.
We head next east into Croatia where we vaguely follow the coast until our next pit stop in two weeks’ time on the island of Hvar, near Spit.
Update 25th September: Some hilly days out of Italy, over Slovenia and into Croatia. We arrived into Rijeka last night and are staying with a host just south of the city. More news shortly.
